As the only Arab film festival in the Upper Midwest, Mizna's Fifth Arab Film Festival is becoming a cultural feature of the region. This year's event will run from 16th to 19th October, 2008 at the historic Heights Theatre in Minneapolis. Over 20 feature films, experimental shorts, and documentaries will be given public screening in morning, afternoon, and evening sessions. Themes explored include immigration and exile, war and peace, religion and sexuality and most films will receive their Minnesota or US premiere. Many screenings will be followed by a discussion with panels of international Arab filmmakers and academics. The festival will also include public receptions which will provide a gathering point for the community to dialogue on issues related to art, life, and the Arab condition in the US and abroad.

Mizna was formed in 1998 and has done much work to promote Arab American artistic expression since that time. We publish a nationally recognized literary journal, and have presented several well-attended community arts events as well.

Mizna is proud to present Cinema Arabiata, a new blog about Arab film by film enthusiast and past TCAFF curator, Mohannad Ghawanmeh. From Mohannad, "Cinema Arabiata aims to cover Arab cinema primarily, but not exclusively. Its ambition is to persuade my readers that cinema, including Arab cinema, has the demonstrated potential not only to inform and impact, but to profoundly move and inspire, to leave a lasting and indelible mark on the lives of it audiences." Mizna is a forum for Arab American film, literature, and art. Mizna publishes the only journal of Arab American literature and presents the Twin Cities Arab Film Festival as well as of the most talented Arab American artists in the visual arts, on stage, in music, and in film—including Simon Shaheen, Suheir Hammad, Hakim Belabbes, Nadia El Fani, Jack Shaheen, Raed Al Helou, Mai Masri, the Iron Sheik, Elias Khoury and others.
