Mizna and The Film Society of Minneapolis-St. Paul present a special screening of When I Saw You – The Film لما شفتك by acclaimed filmmaker, Annemarie Jacir.
This is a one-time screening!
The coming-of-age story of an 11-year-old Palestinian boy in a refugee camp in Jordan of the ’67 War. Tarek cannot fathom why it is that he and his mother Ghaydaa cannot go back to their home in Palestine to reunite with his father. His frustration with living in a camp, separated from his father, eventually persuades him to try to walk back to Palestine, in doing so encountering an adventure that opens his eyes to what has happened to his home and our eyes to what the experience of displacement does to a child.
“As a director, Jacir follows Tarek’s story with rare deftness. Like Truffaut, she films the story from the height of a child; the faces of the older refugees, oppressive forces against his innocent curiosity, are seen from his perspective.” —Slant Magazine
