Playwright and poet, Ismail Khalidi, will be presenting “Foot,” a one-person show, presented by our friends at Pangea World Theater. Mizna is proud to copresent this performance, which is based on a piece Khalidi featured in Mizna’s literary journal in 2004.

Monday, October 26, 6 pm to 8 pm WORKSHOP led by Ismail: “Writing the World Around Us”

In the performance, a young Palestinian football player explains his team’s impossible quest to make it to the World Cup through checkpoints, exile, corruption, and death. Good friend of Mizna Ismail Khalidi is visiting from Chile and doing a residency with our partners at Pangea World Theater.

About Monday’s workshop: Writing the World Around Us: Remembering, Reclaiming and Re-imagining with our Words. In this workshop we will use exercises, prompts and discussions to explore ways in which we can use our writing to see the unseen, speak the silenced, subvert stereotypes and break taboos.

Ismail Khalidi is a playwright, poet, and journalist. His plays include Truth Serum BluesTennis in Nablus, and Sabra Falling. He is the co-editor, with Naomi Wallace, of Inside/Outside: Six Plays from Palestine and the Diaspora (TCG, 2015), and is working on his first collection of poetry. He has been published in MiznaGuernicathe NationAmerican Theatre, the Daily Beast, and ReMezcla. He currently lives in Chile.
