Trylon, Virtual
Mizna’s Twin Cities Arab Film Festival (TCAFF) will return September 28–October 2, 2022 in hybrid format. During September 29–October 2, the in-person screenings will take place at Trylon Cinema in Minneapolis. The online screenings will be hosted through Mizna’s virtual cinema platform, with most screenings accessible across the US. A select few films will be available for international virtual viewing.
Festival Theme: This year’s festival interrogates SWANA diaspora as an experience and filmmaking practice. Films presented at this year’s festival represent movement and resist displacement, challenging conventional narratives that depict life in diaspora.
The festival will open at the Walker Art Center on September 28 at 7pm with a screening of Memory Box, directed by celebrated Lebanese artist-filmmaker duo Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige. One of the directors of the film, Khalil Joreige, will be in attendance for a post-screening discussion. Opening night tickets are available here.
OPENING NIGHT RECEPTION: 5:30pm in the Walker Art Center Lobby, right in front of the theater. Join us for snacks from our festival sponsor Baba’s Hummus, drinks, and music, right before the film!
CLOSING NIGHT CELEBRATION: Join us for an outdoor celebration at 6:30pm at the Moon Palace Plaza. Festival sponsors Baba’s Hummus will serve hummus bowls from their food truck and Batroun Wines will serve Lebanese wine for a suggested donation, and music from Douala Soul Collective!
CLOSING NIGHT FILM: At 7:30pm, Mizna presents a free outdoor screening of The Gravedigger’s Wife by Khadar Ayderus Ahmad. Limited seating will be available, it is recommended to bring your own lawn chairs.
