The seventeenth edition of Mizna’s Twin Cities Arab Film Festival (TCAFF) takes place September 27–October 1, 2023. This year’s festival takes place in-person at The Main Cinema with a special opening night screening at the Walker Art Center. A select number of films will be available virtually across the US.

The 2023 Arab Film Fest marks the 75th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba, or the mass displacement and dispossession of the Palestinian people, with a special spotlight on contemporary and archival Palestinian films.

OPENING NIGHT

The festival will open on September 27, 2023 at the Walker Art Center with a screening of Mediterranean Fever (2022) by critically acclaimed Palestinian filmmaker Maha Haj.

ABOUT THE FILM

Aspiring writer Waleed lives in Haifa with his wife and children and suffers from chronic depression. Repelled by outside interaction, Waleed’s attempts at isolation are interrupted by the arrival of a new neighbor and small-time crook Jalal, who forces him out of his shell. He develops a close relationship with Jalal, with an ulterior plot in mind. As the two become close, the scheme to hire an assassin leads them into a journey of dark encounters. This dark comedy won the Un Certain Regard Best Screenplay at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. Watch the trailer.
