Creative Enterprise Zone
Mizna is proud to be partnering with Chroma Zone and the Minnesota Museum of American Art (The M) to bring muralist Fadlabi to produce a public mural September 7 to 14, 2019. Chroma Zone is Minnesota’s first and largest public mural and art festival, taking place in and showcasing the Creative Enterprise Zone (Mizna’s neighborhood) as a nexus of 300+ studios, creative and maker places of work. This partnership is a public component to Mizna’s 20th Anniversary visual arts retrospective exhibition, History Is Not Here: Art and the Arab Imaginary opening September 12, 2019 at the M.
Fadlabi is a Sudanese artist based in Oslo, Norway. His work uses painting, text, and performance to emphasize cross-disciplinary approaches to making art. In 2008, he founded One Night Only Gallery, an artist-run platform in Oslo that exhibits a new artist every Monday- possibly Norway’s most busy gallery. Between 2010 and 2014 he worked with artist Lars Cuzner on European Attraction Limited, a contemporary rendition of a human zoo named the Congo Village that was part of the 1914 World Fair in Oslo. They reenacted the village and it opened to the public in May 2014. His artwork was published in Mizna’s 2016 Surviving Issue.
