In December 2018, many Sudanese people took to the streets to protest against the oppressive regime of Omar al-Bashir. The demonstrations continued for months, and on April 6th 2019, the protestors staged a sit-in in front of the Sudanese army headquarters in Khartoum. Militarized troops used force against the protestors, and estimates suggest that the army killed over 100 people, while injuring and arresting hundreds more. Yet after months of protest, just five days after the sit-in began, al-Bashir stepped down as President of Sudan.
SIT IN is a documentary that explores the various modalities and procedures revolutionaries used in order to create change. Despite the government’s many actions to thwart the protestors––some violent and some diplomatic––through solidarity and cooperation, the people of Sudan altered their country’s history.
