Chahine’s revered film is set against the backdrop of the 1967 Six-Day War. It follows a policeman from a small village who is troubled by the corruption he sees all around him. The Sparrow was banned in Egypt because it criticized the regime of Gamal Abdel Nasser. This screening is co-presented with Mizna, a local Arab film, literature, and arts nonprofit.
