تضامن | Solidarity: A Gathering for Palestine

Join us on Sunday, May 16, 6pm–8pm at Black Table Arts (3737 Minnehaha Ave, S Minneapolis 55406) for a gathering in solidarity with our Palestinian kin in struggle against seven decades of settler colonialism and ethnic cleansing.

May 15 marks the 73rd anniversary of the Nakba, or “the catastrophe,” the day that commemorates the violent expulsion of Palestinians from their land after the declaration of the state of Israel in Palestine on May 14, 1948. This year, Nakba Day takes place as several Palestinian families resist expulsion from their homes in the East Jerusalem neighborhood, Sheikh Jarrah. In the past weeks, residents of Sheikh Jarrah and their supporters have met increased aggression from Israeli settlers and occupation forces who plan to illegally dispossess the families and settle the entire neighborhood.

As we witness the extreme violence taking place in Sheikh Jarrah this week, surreal, horrific images are circulating of settler violence towards Palestinians: as armed settler lynch mobs aided by occupation forces have taken to the streets in Haifa, Jaffa, Lydd, and other occupied territories in search of Palestinian homes and businesses to destroy and Palestinian people to kill; as the Aqsa Mosque and Dome of the Rock were targetted and damaged, and those praying inside were suffocated by tear gas; as Gaza experiences its worst barrage of air strikes in history, killing civilians as they celebrate Eid.

Simultaneously, incredible actions towards decolonisation and survival are taking place as occupied Palestinian cities and towns are rising up against settler colonialism and in defense of their communities, and Palestinians in cities and camps around the world take to the streets in support.

In solidarity, in anger, in grief, in reflection, and towards decolonization, Mizna will offer a number of healing activities throughout the evening. Try somatic grounding or herbalism with Aziza Bisanz and other local healers; make a zine with old Mizna journals; grab a free plant; dance dabke, and enjoy music!
