Introducing #MiznaAtHome

As routines shift and we find ourselves spending more time at home than we ever anticipated, art is an essential respite.

During this uncertain and frightening time, our small Mizna team is more grateful than ever for the artists, readers, audiences, and community we are fortunate to be a part of. The arts community is being hit hard by the cancellation of in-person performances and events, and our hearts and minds are with those affected.

We are launching #MiznaAtHome, a way for us to continue our mission of providing a forum for artists in the Arab and Southwest Asian and North African community, and a way for you to engage with and support artists during this pandemic. We will continue to update our website with virtual events, resources, watchlists, reading materials, and ways to directly support artists as we can.

Our first #MiznaAtHome feature is a SWANA cinema watchlist curated by past Arab Film Fest Directors.

We’ll be adding more selections as additional festival directors share their picks.

Check out the Cinema Watchlist.

We know that not everyone can offer financial support in difficult times, but engaging with artwork in a meaningful way is a tangible form of support, and if you are able to purchase someone’s book, pay to see an indie film or hear music, or buy a piece of artwork, we encourage you to do so. We will continue to gather resources that are providing complimentary access to SWANA films and art, and are working to make more issues of Mizna available for free.

We’re working to learn how to continue to fulfill our mission to provide a platform for SWANA artists during this new reality, and we’re asking you to support our efforts if you are able. Please consider a tax-deductible donation today.
